About me

Suguna — Photographer, Blogger, Illustrator, and Mixed Media Artist

Art, creativity, and an appreciation of beauty have shaped my world for as long as I can remember. Growing up in southern India, I found joy in creating—drawing, painting, and capturing life's little wonders—but as I navigated different phases of life, art sometimes faded into the background.

In 2000, I embarked on a new journey, moving to the U.S. with my husband and young son, navigating new beginnings and building a career in accounting and tax consulting. Over the years, I established a decent business, managing multiple offices and leading a team, while balancing family life. But when my son reached high school, I made a pivotal decision—to step away from my business and cherish those fleeting years before he ventured into adulthood.

Then came yet another transformation. When my husband’s career took him to India and my son left for college, I found myself caught between different worlds—Pennsylvania, Atlanta, India. It was during this time that photography became my anchor, giving me a way to embrace change and preserve the beauty in moments that would otherwise slip away.

Every flight, every journey became an opportunity to capture the landscapes, cultures, and emotions around me. From the sun-drenched beaches of the Maldives to the rich history of Sri Lanka, each destination shaped my lens—both literally and figuratively.

But life had another twist in store. A move to California in late 2019 presented fresh creative opportunities, yet within months, the world changed again—the pandemic confined us to our homes, halting my travel plans and bringing a period of stillness. Instead of seeing it as an obstacle, I turned inward, reconnecting with my childhood love for quilling, painting, and mixed media. That chapter of rediscovery led to Suguna Design Studio, where I now blend photography and artistry, transforming my experiences into something tangible.

Every phase of my life has taught me that creativity isn’t just about making art—it’s about embracing change, seeing beauty in the unexpected, and finding joy in the journey. My work reflects the transformations, resilience, and wonder that have defined my path, and I hope that those who experience it feel that same sense of inspiration.
